The Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, often referred to simply as OCSLA, covers injuries for most offshore oil rig workers. The benefits afforded under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act were extended to rig workers via OCSLA. That means that the medical and indemnity benefits available to longshore workers are also available to oil rig workers.
